The Relationship Between the Temperature Fields in the Upper Troposphere and Lower Stratosphere and Polar Air Outbreaks in Asia

Abstract

　　In winter, the weather over Asia area is mainly dominated by the polar anticylone. As a result, the polar air outbreak is then specially important for the region in the low latitudes. After analysing six years (1973-1978) data we found that there is a close relationship between the temperature fields in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere and polar air outbreaks . Among all the features two different types of 200mb level temperature field which clearly relate to the polar air outbreak are analyzed and discussed in this paper. Some results may be helpful to the prediction of the cold weather in winter in our area.
