Reports on Typhoon THELMA and VERA in 1977

Abstract

　　After Typhoon THELMA with a rever ed “S”path and VERA with a path of ”V” type which invaded separately Southern and Northern Taiwan last year. We are facing a problem that we weathermen are possible or not to take the forecast in control and make it right for those forthcoming typhoons which take the odd path.

　　The answer is positive if the weathermen keep the experiences in mind and the public take any availabe precautions against typhoons in the meantime.

　　In this report, we analized the synoptic conditions during the period of those two typhoons and summarized the phenomena which may influenced their movement. The result may be useful for our future work.
