An Analysis of the Characteristics of Heavy Rainfall in Northern Taiwan Area

Abstract
Owing to the Geographical situation, the occurrences of floods heavy rainfall had frequently performed in Taiwan. In addition,the complexity of landform in this area are used to causing the irregular distribution of precipitation.
In outlooking of the rainfall generating causes of Taiwan, they are probably divided into following eight types:
(1)NE monsoon (2)Stationary front
(3)Typhoon (4)SW monsoon
(5)Upper air flow patten (6)Geographic rain
(7)Taiwan Low or East Chian Sea Low (8)Tropical Depression or ITCZ
The typhoon plays the most important role in causing the heavy rainfall in Northern Taiwan.It happens at least once a year. But, the maximum daily heavy rainfall are often caused by the tropical depression or tropical pressure sysrem as well as the double effects of typhoon and NE monsoon, the average rainfall may reach 180 mm.
