The Behaviors of the Pacific Subtropical High during the Mid-Winter Time and Its Influence on the Weather of Taiwan

Abstract

　　This research is using the time cross-section analysis of 700mb contours to study the behaviors of the Pacific subtropical high, and its influence on the weather of Taiwan in winter. In this research, it is found that the strength of the subtropical high in the Pacific is attributed largely to the change of itself and the influence of the high pressure in the Indian Ocean.

　　Further, we notice that if the cols enter the South China Sea and pass over 120°E, the front will follow to push down southward with them. As to the Subtropical high itself, we use the time cross-section diagram for study. When under the control of strong ridge, the frontal activities over Taiwan will not be evident. But when under the control of the weak ridge, the bad weather over Taiwan may last for a pretty long time.
