A Three-dimensional Case Study of Polar Air Outbreaks Over Taiwan

ABSTRACT

　　By means of a detailed synoptic analysis on a selected case(27 to 31, Jan.,1979), the three-dimensional characteristics of polar air outbreaks over Taiwan area is studied.We found that the concentration of kinectic energy into the cyclone, which is on the east side of the polar air,is very significant during the last period of the outbreak.A “tropopause funnel” accompanying the cyclone is also found through the vertical section analysis.

　　Through the study,which includes (1) thickness,(2)anormaly,(3) Vertical section,and (4) isentropical energy analysises we get very consistent result.They show that a typical outbreak of cold air is a major system in the stmospheric motion, and the factors,which influences it,spread through all the atmosphere on our hemisphere.The 700mb ω filed is also presented。
