A Study of Synoptic Patterns of Rainy Days in Mid-Winter over the Southwest of Taiwan

Abstract

　　Taiwan is a north-south-south orientated elongate island at south-east margin of Asia continent, its boundary is between 25°37’53″N to 21°45’25″N from north to south, 119°18’03″E to 122°06’25″E from west to east, and there is a mountain range goes north to south through the central part. Therefore in mid-winter, When northeast monsoon prevails, the South west part of Taiwan, which at the lee side of the mountain range has much different weather conditions from the other parts, The purpose of this study is to find the reasons and synoptic patterns of the Rainy days over this part. According to the 10-year (1964, 11-1974, 2) datum and weather maps, We find that there are four synoptic Patterns which may be related to the rainy days, Case studies are also presented in this work.
