A Composite Case Study of the Relationship Between the Upper Tropospheric Kinematic Field and the Formation and Development of Tropical Cyclones

Abstract

　　In Auguest 1977 only one typhoon formed in the West Pacific region. It is minimum in the last 27 years records. Synoptic situations not suitable for typhoon formation and development may be found in many respects. In this paper the streamline charts at 200mb level were analyzed in a composite form and used as a tool to work out the basic differences between if there will be a few typhoons formed or not. It seems that the 200mb streamline charts give some definite indications on typhoon formation. This result may be useful for our daily forecast in the typhoon season.
