THE TIDE GENERATING FORCE AND WEATHER

The numerical value of the tide generating force exerted by the moon on the atmosphere is approximately 10-4dyne g-1. It is a negligible force if it is compared with other forces in the equation of motion, however, while a developing cyclone (either tropical or ex-tratropical associated weth high moisture laden air and thick nimbostratus or heavy cumulonimbus the effect of the tide generating force of the moon is considered as one of the control factors for the develoment and movement of a storm.
According to the moon’s apparent path the following 4 moon positeons are considered as the most favorable situation for the fomation of a tropical depression if there is a disturbed area existing in the tropical oceanic region. or a tropical depression intensifies into a typhoon if the former has been existing in the region:
(1) New and full moon,
(2) While the moon’s center crosses the ecliptic either from south to north or north to south,
(3) While the moon moves over the tropics of capricorn, and
(4) While the moon’s apparent path passes over a disturbed area or a depression in the tropical oceanic region.
Besides that, the movement of typhoons in relation to the moon’s apparent path as well as the 18 2/3 year cycle in the moon’s maximum declinations north and south in relation to the abnormal warm 1968 winter season inthe area are also discussed.
