A study on the forecasting of Taiwan low and its Associated Weather by using satellite pictures

ABSTRACT

　　Taiwan low plays an important rule in causing significant weather over Taiwan in cold months, but it is rather difficult to predict its occurrance duo to few Conventional data over seas surrounding the Area. It is thus attempted to make an investigation by using the satellite pictures as the significant tool.
　　First of all in this paper, We figure out the numbers of occurrance of Taiwan low for the last 8 years, then investigate synoptic situations favorable for Taiwan low activities, and at last, examine the Associated cloud features case by case, respectively. After detailed analysis the following results have been abtained.
　　There is a good relationship between cloud pattern viewed from satellite pictures and Taiwan low. And some specific features can be used as indications of Taiwan low’s development. The worst Weather with gust more than 35 knots can be expected over Taiwan once a deep low has been developed, and it generally lasts for a period of 12-36 hours.
　　In order to increase the accuracy of Taiwan low’s prediction, further study is required by using satellite pictures.
