On the Movement of Typhoon AMY and Its Induced Lows

Jong-Cheng Hwang

Abstract

The activity region of Typhoon AMY is over the south China Sea and Taiwan,And her path is extremely irregular. We can divided its track into four pars, i.e. (a) westward moving stage; (b) north-eastward moving stage; (c)rotating stage; and (d) eastward moving stage. We note that during the rotating stage AMY was in stationary condition since there was no steering flow. Amy, in the whole, was effected by geography and wind shear conditions.

While AMY was wandering around Taiwan strait there were several secondary lows generated at different locations. One was located at south-western part of Taiwan, and moved westward to the Taiwan Straits. It was this low twisting with AMY and finally took the place of her circulation. The induced low over east part of Taiwan, which was caused by the air flow crossed the Central Mountain Range, has also close relationship with Amy,s northward movement.
