Turbulences and Mountain Waves in Relations to Flying Safety in Taiwan Region

Abstract

　　This paper deals with general factors governing the formations of turbulences either in clouds or in clear air and mountain waves, the criteria of inertial instability for latitudes at which Taiwan is located, and the Richardson numbers calculated from the monthly mean upper air data at Taoyuan, Makung and Tung-kong in Taiwan. In addition, the synoptic and weather conditions involved in the five actual cases of aircraft accidents are analysed, and rules which air crews should strictly obey are specially emphysized.
