A Case Study on the Relation between Thunderstorm and Hight Level Cold Advection over Taiwan in December 1972

Abstract

　　Thunderstorm occurred on rare occasions over Taiwan in December. According to 71 years’ record (1889-1960), annual average of 18 stations is 557.3 days and only 0.8 day in December. But there were almost 4 days for some stations and 1-2 days for the others in December 1972.
　　In this paper the author tries to explain such unusual phenomenon. After careful study, some conclusions are obtained:
1) In this case, high level cold advection plays an importance role;
2) High level cold advection associated with cold front could generate thunderstorm even in winter.
